Description of the job

A vacancy for a “Senior Performance Engineer (m/f) Galileo Satellite Navigation” has arisen within Airbus Defence and Space in Ottobrunn.

The successful applicant will join “Navigation Products/GNSS Performance”.

Tasks & accountabilities

What can you expect?

You will contribute to the ongoing deployment and exploitation phase of the European satellite navigation system Galileo as well as the definition of the future second generation of Galileo with a high responsibility for system analysis, performance, assessment and integrity aspects.

You will join the Airbus Navigation Department. With more than 60 engineers and 20 years of experience it is one of the leading expert groups in Europe for the development and implementation of the European satellite navigation systems EGNOS and Galileo.

Tasks & accountabilities:

o Contribution to the definition, implementation and characterization of Galileo, the European satellite navigation system
o Management of system performance budgets in combination with underlying system modelling to provide the required statistical evidences
o Contribution to performance trouble shooting for the Galileo system with detailed investigation of system anomalies and feared events which includes the responsibility for definition and assessment of required algorithms for data evaluation
o Definition of new system algorithms and service engineering for high accuracy navigation
o Identification of precise navigation algorithms such as PPP, RTK and sensor-fusion technologies with e.g. IMU
o Identification and engineering of reliable positioning for GNSS application in safety-critical domains such as railway, maritime, automotive, or security
o Detailed definition, assessment, modelling and simulation of system functionalities to derive robustness and expected performance
o Trade-off analyses for different solutions and implementation options
o Assessment, justification and balancing of performance and reliability budget

Required skills

We are looking for candidates with the following qualification, skills and experience:

o You have a Master's degree in a related Engineering discipline such as Applied Mathematics, Navigation, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Telecommunications, Physics, Geodesy, Computer Science, or similar
o You have demonstrated experience in satellite navigation systems, in particular GPS or Galileo
o You have profound knowledge on GNSS algorithms for positioning, error correction, data processing and system performance budget management
o You have shown solid experience in navigation system and user algorithms including precise positioning concepts
o You have detailed knowledge in one or more of the following areas: precise orbit determination, time synchronization, data dissemination, Precise Point Positioning, Real-Time-Kinematic algorithms, GNSS error compensation, ambiguity fixing
o You have demonstrated ability to analyze complex technical problems and define innovative solutions
o You have shown experience in writing engineering software in C, Python or Matlab
o You are motivated to work within an international culture and willing to adjust to an international environment
o Your English is on negotiation leve, your German is fluent
