Description of the job

The Airbus Chief Technology Office (CTO) is looking for a System architect to join Urban Air Mobility - Pop.Up Next project. This position is to be based in Toulouse.

The Pop.Up Next projects aims at demonstrating that flying modular air and ground vehicle is possible and at establishing Airbus’ leadership in this technology. Baseline concept is based on a passenger capsule to be connected to a ground Module or an Air Module. Airbus is in charge of complete Air Vehicle demonstrator. Partnership with automotive industry company will enable Airbus to progress quickly towards Urban Air Mobility promising market.

The Airbus Pop.Up Next team operates under the Airbus Exponential Organization (ExO) core principles: speed, rapid adaptation to changes, employee empowerment, wholeness and absence of rigid hierarchy.

Using current Airbus Helicopters CityAirbus architecture as staring baseline, you will have the duty to establish a robust system architecture for the new Air Module. We will actively participate in the development activities for system and system installation, including some design activities. Main challenges are linked to electrical power supply with batteries, engine cooling, flight control, modules coupling and detection systems.

The position is offered within Airbus EO conditions and salary policy.

Tasks & accountabilities

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Being responsible for System architecture, system definition and system installation.
  • Acting as system focal point in front of our automotive partner and others involved companies.

This role will involve some travel for business and as such you must be able to travel accordingly.

This job requires an awareness of any potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity, as the foundation for the Company’s success, reputation and sustainable growth.

Required skills

Your Boarding Pass

  • Strong background in system architecture, especially electrical system
  • Good background in all ATA system installation definition
  • Good background in helicopter engineering
  • Knowledge of overall aircraft design topics, including handling qualities, aircraft performance
  • Experience of aircraft airworthiness is desirable
  • Able to self-manage in a non-hierarchical environment, understanding what the organization needs, acting and making decisions accordingly.
  • Able to lead a team and to perform productive activities by your own. You are a hands-on person, open minded, solution-oriented and communicative.
  • English: Negotiation level. German would be a plus.
