Description of the job
In the company-wide initiative “End-to-End Supply Chain Quality Boost”, aiming at improving the quality of our suppliers’ products, the creation of Manufacturing Engineering for Systems, Landing Gear and Powerplant has been recognized as a key priority.
As a Manufacturing Engineering Industrialization Leader in Powerplant, you will bring manufacturing expertise, product and supplier knowledge to ensure the manufacturability and quality of the product from the industrial perspective. This is a challenging and complex activity which is needed to support the ramp up of the SA and A350 aircraft programmes.
You will work with Airbus Engineering, Procurement and Quality functions and with all the major Airbus engine and nacelle suppliers worldwide, mainly in Europe and the US. The new Manufacturing Engineering Powerplant team is part of the Engineering Powerplant Architecture/Integration (EPI) domain located in Blagnac, Toulouse.
Tasks & accountabilities
You will be part of a small team of industrial leaders and specialists working in 4 main areas :
1 Participation to the requirements definition for Call for Tender, analyzing and evaluating the industrial element of bidders’ proposals, participating in supplier assessments for selection or other purposes.
2 Assessment of manufacturability of the design during product development and modifications : technical risks and opportunities analysis, participation to design reviews to challenge design options in order to influence the suppliers’ design and manufacturing system.
3 Surveillance and monitoring of the product industrialization with the supplier : leading regular industrial reviews at the supplier, deploying APQP methodology when agreed, ensuring the manufacturing system robustness before series production.
4 Root cause resolution of in-service and series production disruptions caused by supplier manufacturing capability issues and contribution to industrial recovery/performance improvement initiatives.
You will activate Manufacturing Engineering specialists in other parts of the Airbus organisation when a deeper expertise in specific technologies is needed. This role will involve frequent travel to Airbus sites and supplier facilities.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate a strong background in Manufacturing Engineering and at least one of the other two groups of skills and competencies :
- Manufacturing Engineering
- Knowledge in Manufacturing Engineering (manufacturing processes, methods, technologies)
- Industrial knowledge (process capability concepts, lean principles, production management, problem solving techniques)
- Experience as an industrial auditor or assessor
- Familiarity with APQP methodology
- Supply Chain Management
- Awareness of supplier contractual framework/requirements
- Experience in working with suppliers
- Ability to work autonomously with large complex suppliers
- Diplomacy and negotiating skills with negotiation level of English
- Aeroengines and Nacelles
- Some knowledge of aeroengine design/architecture
- Experience of aeroengine manufacture and/or assembly
- Experience of nacelle manufacture and/or assembly
