What we do
The Airbus Defence and Space headquarters are in Ottobrunn, near Munich. Solar panels for satellites are also produced here, and the design, development and manufacturing of rocket engines and thrust chambers for the Ariane 5 launch vehicle happen here, too. NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope uses a Near Infrared Spectrograph, which was built in Ottobrunn and is capable of detecting the faintest radiation from the most distant galaxies.
In 2012, the company launched a unique project in the form of the Ludwig Bölkow Campus in Ottobrunn, which enables science and industry to combine their strengths in joint research projects. In the future, an on-campus start-up centre will ensure rapid knowledge transfer between academia and industry.
Some of Airbus’s support functions also have offices in Ottobrunn, such as human resources, finance, communication, information management and others. Airbus CyberSecurity also runs some activities on site (e.g. one of the Service Operation Centers (SOC) is based in Ottobrunn).
